Hi H2CWorld-dreamers,

We are very happy with our experience at the Psychology department in Legon Universtiy. Noah took good care of us and we hope to do more in the future with the student group association.

Our program was part of a bigger program the first year psychology students were following concerning their future careers as psychologist.

We opened the program with and individual activity were they were asked: Imagine yourself in your dream job, what is it like? What barriers do you find to get there? What strengths do you find to get there?

Next, 2 group were formed in order to discuss what they had written down. Group 1 (community 1) was asked to discuss about the barriers they had found and group 2 (community 2) was asked to discuss about the strengths they had found.

Later, a case was given: Kofi and Ama (different information was given about them two) met and decided to do something to achieve their common dream “to help disabled people in Ghana”. Community 1 and 2 had were asked: How can you help them? What did they achieve? Make a brief action plan.

We expected differences in the answers to the questions, predicting that community 1 would have a more negative view of the achievement of that common dream Kofi and Ama had.

What was interesting is that they both communities gave a similar answer (to start up an organization/NGO which could help the disabled and they would contribute in it). But what was interesting was the process that they experienced until they got there, as community 1 spend a lot of time discussing about their barriers (they could have gone for ages!).

Finally we had a discussion around the previous experience, around working with a problem of a strength base approach and on how this could affect the achievement of your career goals.

We were happy as the program we offered was made Ghanaian (which is part of our dream), as Noah and his patron rapped up our activity with a Ghanaian point of view which put into words what we thought in a way that could be well understood by the students!

We would have loved to let them discuss more, but our time was limited by a huge storm who blew us all away!
